Costao do Santinho, recognized for its sustainability practices, held another edition of the Housekeeping Day project on Tuesday afternoon (24th). The event, which takes place every three months, mobilizes employees from all areas of the resort and significantly mitigates solid waste in the Northern Island region.
In this edition, aligning with World Beach Cleanup Day, celebrated on September 16th, the team focused efforts on cleaning the sand strip of Santinho Beach. As a result, 140 kilograms of solid waste were collected.
The project is coordinated by the Costao quality team and has been promoting a positive impact on environmental preservation since it was implemented by the resort. With each edition, Housekeeping Day reinforces the commitment to sustainable practices, contributing to nature conservation and encouraging awareness among employees and guests.
In 2024, two other editions of Housekeeping Day have already been held, with the collection of 470 kilograms in April and 280 kilograms in June. In total, the initiative by the Costao quality team has collected 890 kilograms of solid waste throughout the year.
Housekeeping Day
Housekeeping is an integral tool of the so-called 5S program, which originated in Japan in the 1950s, right after World War II. Amidst the disorganization caused by the war, this quality tool helped reorganize the Japanese economy.
The objective was to transform the organizational environment and the attitudes of employees to increase productivity and quality of life, while also reducing waste and costs. In other words, the biggest advantage of housekeeping is enabling the implementation and consolidation of quality management.
